Why does prednisone lower your alcohol tolerance?

My friend was told not to drink while taking prednisone, that one beer would hold the effect of 4-5 beers. Prednisone promotes the synthesis of hepatic alcohol-metabolizing enzyme, therefore, increases the toxicity from metabolites.
(There is no drug that does not own side-effects. Prednisone is prescribed widely for allergies and auto-immune diseases. Your friend doesn't have to hysterics for taking prednisone as long as he or she follows the doctor's instruction)
Prednisone has an array of tremendously bad side effects, alcohol intolerance is the smallest of its problems. This is one drug I would avoid unless there are NO other alternatives. Prolonged use of this drug have disastrous side effects that are life threatening. Usually, usage longer than one week is notably ill-advised.
